Biography
Nathaniel H. Benjamin believes the best leaders refuse to choose between strategy and humanity. A people development executive, executive coach, organizational strategist, and speaker, he has spent his career proving that analytical rigor and genuine care for people are not opposing forces, but the head and the heart working as one. As President and CEO of Vertical Works, he partners with nonprofits, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, and mission-driven leaders through fractional CHRO services, leadership coaching, organizational strategy, and speaking and training engagements, helping organizations build cultures where people and performance grow together.
An ICF-credentialed coach, Nathaniel has spent more than 25 years in executive people leadership roles at some of the most consequential institutions in American public life, including C-suite appointments as a Chief People Officer and Senior Vice President of Human Resources. He has managed budgets ranging from $2 million to $32 million, led teams of up to 80 HR professionals, and advised Chairmen, CEOs, and executive leaders on enterprise-wide human capital strategy and culture transformation. That same conviction, that strategy needs a heartbeat, runs through his forthcoming book, Strategy with a Heartbeat: Four Chambers of Leadership Excellence, set for release in September 2026.
